What To Wear When Going Overseas
By: Aazdak Alisimo

Every person should take at least one lengthy trip abroad during their life. Lengthy usually means a couple of months, which means you need a packing strategy for clothes. Less is more is the general strategy to employ.

When it comes to clothing, the first step is obviously to pack for the climate. If you are going to the Alps during the winter, pack warm. A trip to the Greek Islands in summer, of course, requires a bathing suit and flip flops. Here are some general tips on travel clothing.

If you are traveling to a destination that has rain, a raincoat is a definite must. That being said, there is little reason to pack anything heavy. Instead, try to go with the lightest material possible and, preferably, something dark.

For women, traveling abroad can be a bit of a shock. Simply put, women are treated differently in various cultures. Find out cultural standards before you go. Comply with them to avoid problems. If you are offended, simply don't go.

The travel industry has come up with a wide variety of wrinkle free garments for the average traveler. The wrinkle free clothing has really improved, and is definitely worth taking along so long as you break it in before your trip.

To save space when packing, roll up the various things you are taking. Another approach is to use one of those bags you can suck the air out of with your vacuum. You can really pack a lot of stuff in a small space for long trips when using them.

A double climate trip can be difficult. If you are going from a cold to warm climate or the opposite, pack for both. When you make the switch, send the clothes you don't need home in the mail. It will cut down the weight you have to haul around.

You will rarely be doing your own laundry on the trip. In many parts of the world, laundry service comes with even the cheapest hotel. The quality of that service is usually good, but make sure to pack clothes that don't require specific care.

Layout the clothing you intend to take. Are there any pieces you would be heartbroken to lose or have damaged? If so, you should know what to do with them. Replace them with something else that isn't going to be missed. Traveling is rough on clothes.

Traveling abroad is an absolute blast and I highly recommend you do it as much as possible. That being said, minimize what you pack for your trips. You can usually buy anything you forget at your destination, so don't sweat it.
