Turkey, an Asian country with a history of genocide against non-Muslims does not belong in the EU. Turkey has nothing in common with Europe. History, culture, economy, political structure and attitudes are remarkably divergent between Europe and Islamic and Asian Turkey. None of the factors that make up a modern, progressive and vibrant nation state exists in Turkey. This says nothing of the 5 million non-Muslims the Turks murdered between 1896 and 1923. As Hitler commented when asked about ‘Western’ reaction to liquidating the Jews, ‘does anyone remember the Armenians…’ This alone should forever mark Turkey as a non-European and pariah state.
In the post modern anti-reality universe, Turkey is a model Islamic state. Nice, kind, trying to be better, modern and not as anti-Western or violent as say Iran, Syria, Egypt or Iraq. Maybe. More probably Turkey is quiet because its military and police have vast powers. The Turkish police are famous for torturing those who are arrested. Turkey is quiet because its people have a good chance at dying in prison or from torture if the state takes an interest in their affairs.
The EU, which is so concerned about Islamic fascists at G’bay being treated with the utmost kindness, and deference, or whether the US is handing out candy in Iraq, or if Israel is doing enough to appease the terrorists in Gaza and beyond, yawns at the thousands of cases that are brought up yearly by human rights organizations against Turkish authorities. Being blind in the pursuit of abstract political theories [Turkey is the bridge to Islam, Turkey can be a regional example of modernity etc. etc.] is hardly conducive to our civilsiational survival.
The persistent myth that Muslims lived in harmony under the Ottomans with other peoples is profane idiocy. Muslims ruled, the rest obeyed. Muslims dominated, the rest were dhimmi’s or second-class animals. Islam was the law, and power the judiciary. Anything done for ‘Allah’ was and is okay.
The EU so anxious to show its good offices with Islamic states prefers to ignore the obvious. An example is the prefiguring of Hitler’s holocaust by the Turkish state and theocracy. Between 1896 and 1923 the Turkish state, along with fascist Islamic groups, excitable Imams and mosques throughout the country went on a jihad against non-Muslims. Five million died.
As one British ethnographer observer wrote during the 1920s in Turkey: ‘Conceive the inevitable result of centuries of slavery, of subjection to insult and scorn, centuries in which nothing that belonged to the Armenian, neither his property, his house, his life, his person, nor his family, was sacred or safe from violence—capricious, unprovoked violence—to resist which by violence meant death.’
The Turkish Muslim destruction of Jews, Greeks and Christians began in 1896 and reached industrial proportions during the First World War and into the early 1920s. Between 1986 and 1915 about 1.5 million non-Muslims, along with their property, churches, and personal assets were liquidated. That works out to about 75.000 per year or about 205 per day. From 1915 to 1917 1.5 million more Armenians were rounded up and butchered by the Turkish army. This equates into a kill rate of about 2054 per day or 10 times the previous levels. From 1918 to 1923 about 2 million more were disposed of by the state or about 1000 per day including 150.000 or more at Izmir whilst Allied ships sat in the harbor and ignored the orgy of death.
It is hard to kill 200 to 2000 people per day unless you have large numbers of fanatics doing the killing and/or a state managed industrial process to automate the destruction of human life. The Turks had both.
Churchill summed it up nicely in his book on the First World War [the World Crisis]: ‘[it was] administrative holocaust [government managed]….the clearance of race from Asia Minor was about as complete as such an act could be...There is no reason to doubt that that this crime was planned and executed for political reasons. The opportunity presented itself for clearing Turkish soil of a Christian race opposed to all Turkish ambitions.’ Apparently Churchill sees the situation a lot clearer than most of today’s EU-ropian politicians. Muslims don’t like other groups to challenge their supremacy.
Turkey denies the existence of the holocaust and calls such claims fabrications, Western plots or conspiracy theories to deny Turkey full international respect. True to its history of war and aggression against non-Muslims in 1974 Turkey illegally invaded Cyprus, tore up the northern part of the island, occupied it and butchered thousands of Christians and Greeks. Again no apologies, no redress, no guilt.
Sadly the memory and historical record of Turkish insouciance, indifference and fascist tendency, is slowly receding – especially in Europe. Though the Euro-cat elite has called for Turkey to recognize Cyprus and admit to the Armenian genocide it does so politely and without much conviction. For the Euro elite the prize of Turkey means 80 million more people, influence and control over the Bosporus and eastern Mediterranean and a large footprint in the Middle East giving Europe a legitimate right to meddle in Iraq and elsewhere. Short-sighted geo-political concerns and fantasies of power and relevance are pushing the Euro-elite to embrace Turkey.
The Euro-cats also carefully ignore Turkey’s stunted record and modern oppression of freedom of speech [jailing dissident authors]; peacefully solving the Kurdistan question of autonomy within Turkey [preferring to threaten to invade Iraq]; its long history of trade and illegal investment with terrorist regimes; governmental corruption [legendary even by Italian standards]; and its bloated state control over various economic sectors [hardly conducive to the ‘single market’ concept adopted by Europe]. These blindingly obvious obstacles to Turkey’s development and credibility are used by the ‘integrationists’ as added proof that the sooner Turkey can enter the modern EU club the better. These weaknesses are ‘spun’ as positives for EU inclusion, not negatives.
But while the Euro elite ignores Turkey’s dismal record and anti-liberal history, the Euro population does not. According to the BBC, 82 % of Austrians don’t want Turkey in the EU. Something to do with September 11 1683 and the near Muslim destruction of Vienna I guess. In fact 65% of Europeans don’t want the Turks. Only in Hungary, which rather bizarrely suffered under the ravages of Turkish occupation for 200 years, and Poland, is the population split 50-50 on Turkish membership. Everywhere else the vote is not even close. The average Euro citizen has no interest in allowing an 80 million strong Muslim state into Europe.
Good for them. Turkish arrogance and historical criminality should not be rewarded by allowing a poor Turkish state into the richer EU club to feed off of EU taxpayer money through various regional investment programs.
Turkey’s recent acts of 20th century terrorism are enough to condemn it for eternity. But we should also not forget that by allowing Turkey into the EU, there will be a massive demographic sea-change. Turkey contains 80 million Muslims with a high fertility rate. As Turkey continues to grow and Europe’s population shrinks it will drastically and forever change the way the EU works, votes and allocates money. Turkey will become more powerful, whilst other states decline. Soon the Muslims will be running Europe via the EU. How ironic.
Jack Straw, British foreign minister, put forward the Euro-elite’s warped and silly view of the world, supported by poor Euro newssheets like the Economist, when he said, ‘[Turkey would be] a beacon of democracy and modernity…and a Muslim country providing a shining example across the whole of its neighbouring region’. He sounds about as silly as John Edwards discussing economics or Al Gore the scientist intoning about the microwaving of the earth through Co2 emissions.
Poor Jack Straw. Turkey is not a democracy. It is a state that relies on the military for stability and its politics is decidedly corrupt. It is not modern. Most of the Turkish economy is agricultural; it has one of the highest debt levels in Asia; and its per capita income is less than that of Russia. Its shining example is an Islamic state that persecutes minorities; jails dissenting journalists; and white-washes its history of murdering 5 million non-Muslims along with thousands of innocents during the invasion of Cyprus. Not to mention its huge ill-gotten gains in illegal trade with Hussein’s Iraq and its disavowal to allow the US 4th Infantry division to use Turkish bases to launch a necessary pincer movement into northern Iraq. Turkey a Western friend and ‘shining example’? Please.
Many smug Euro-elites hold diabolical views of the world. Most in the rarified air of EU-topian rule are mesmerized by abstract theory; post modern babble; and a general spiritual emptiness. To such people Islam is just another ‘faith’. They ignore its 1400 crusade against the world. Europe itself nearly succumbed on many occasions from the 8th to 17th centuries. Islam’s 1000 year dominance of many parts of Europe is not forgotten in the Arab and Turkish heartland or in most European nations. Thankfully most common European citizens are not fooled by their elite’s post modern babble. They are foursquare against the inclusion of Turkey into the EU club.
If the European citizen rejects Turkey and forces the political elite to wake up to the larger Islamic menace that threatens to engulf and annihilate Europe, than there might be some hope yet that Europe will survive. |
