Success: You Can't Succeed if You Can't Make a Decision
By: Cheryl A. Clausen

Are you a procrastinator? Do you fail more often than you succeed? You have trouble making decisions and that's why you find it so hard to succeed. You can turn this around by developing the habit of making decisions quickly. Right now you think it's hard to make decisions. You find it hard to make decisions because you're focused on information rather than the facts, plus you don't have a specific plan for what you want and how you're going to get it.

Stick with your decision once you've made it. You should only change a decision if you have conclusive facts indicating you should do so. Even when you have the facts you want to change your mind slowly because you may be making a fear based decision rather than a fact based decision. Basing your decisions on fear causes you to change your mind often and results in poor decisions.

Make your decisions yourself. Reach and follow your decisions yourself based on the facts you've gathered, and the objectives you've set for success. When you include others in your decision making process you're only muddying the waters with misinformation, negativity, and jealousy. Develop confidence in your decision making capabilities through practice. There are few, if any decisions, that can't be undone. Start by making low risk decisions quickly and then sticking with them until you gain the confidence to make important decisions quickly.

At times you will have to reach out to other people to get the facts you need. Get those facts without sharing why you want them. Until you've already made your decision and taken action you want to keep your thoughts and ideas to yourself.

If you're a talker start becoming a listener and observer. When you do all the talking you miss the opportunities and facts that are right under your nose. Use your eyes and ears to look and listen for the facts and opportunities you need. You can't be focused on finding these opportunities and facts when you're doing all the talking.

Never tell anyone about your plans. Others will know your plans when they see the results. If you want to avoid: ridicule for not following through on your plans, the likelihood that someone else will take your idea and directly compete with you, and having your thoughts and ideas cluttered with a bunch of ideas that detract from your focus; keep your plans to yourself until you've taken action.
