In some cases there will be two separate auctions for the exact same DVD in the exact same condition, but one will sell for twice as much as the other. Why is this? It is all about the look and the presentation of the product.
If you were going to make an electronics purchase, would you want to make your purchase from someone's garage or would you want to buy it from a knowledgeable salesperson? Chances are you'd rather buy from a professional. The same can be said for bidders looking to buy DVDs on eBay. They'd rather buy from a professional than from someone selling DVDs out of a garage.
Now don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with storing DVDs in a garage and shipping them from your home. However, your auction pages should be as professional as if you were running a huge DVD conglomerate with rented warehouse space and the works. In other words, you need to create the right impression.
There are three key ingredients for creating auction pages that sell - the item description, the auction images and the auction template. Without these key ingredients, you aren't maximizing the potential of your eBay sales.
Let's first discuss the auction description. The name of the DVD and the year it was released does not constitute an auction description. A great auction description will include a brief synopsis of the film, the special features of the DVD, the length of time, and the price (especially if it is well below retail price).
The more you tell people about the item up for auction, the more likely they'll be to bid on it. It is also important that you check your description for grammatical errors, as these can be very damaging to your credibility.
Next we should discuss the auction images. You want to have one really great image of the DVD, and the most obvious image is the front cover. If it is possible, it is a good idea to also get the back of the cover as well as the screen shots. The human mind is driven by image, and a picture is worth a thousand words.
The third critical element of a successful auction is the auction template. You can have the best description and the greatest images, and if they're all flung up on the auction page in a mishap manner, no one is going to be impressed. Make sure your auction template is professional and makes a great impression. After all, perception is everything and if eBay bidders perceive you as a top-notch eBay seller, that is what you'll become.
These are only three of the many variables that determine a successful listing from an unsuccessful listing. The time of day your auction is listed, the duration, auction title, and your feedback score also play an important part. If your not successful at first, try tweaking some more of these variables. Once you have the right combination, you can be just as successful as the top ebay sellers. |
