One of the procedures for reducing the size of the breast is breast reduction surgery, which is performed by cosmetic or plastic surgeons. It usually involves liposuction of the fats in the breast, after which they are the reshaped. This procedure can be done for both women and men. When done with men, the procedure is called gynecomastia surgery.
Gynecomastia refers to the condition of the development of female-like breasts in men. Around 50 percent of men of different races around the world have this condition. It can develop during adolescence, with the male as young as twelve years old. This condition is due to hormonal changes, and is also due to improper diet, drug intake, and other lifestyle-induced hormonal imbalances.
There are two things that can cause men to suffer from gynecomastia. First, there's the excessive body fat percentage. That'll always do it, though drug intake and other lifestyle-induced hormonal imbalances can also cause breast formation. The second cause is hormones. Now, the reason boys breasts get sensitive during puberty is because of hormonal fluctuations, particularly the hormone estrogen (or oestrogen).
Since the cause of man boobs in some men can be attributed to obesity, apathy, or a generally unhealthy lifestyle, lifestyle changes and diet changes can reverse gynecomastia. But for those who are afflicted from an imbalance of hormones in the body, the only option is gynecomastia surgery. Performed mostly as an outpatient surgery, you only need to stay for a few days in the hospital to recover after going through gynecomastia surgery.
Gynecomastia is done by subjecting the patient under general anesthesia. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, a small incision just below the areola is done by the surgeon. The excess breast tissue is removed from the area, while the fat is removed through liposuction. The procedure usually costs from around $2000 to as high as $6000. Before undergoing the procedure, it is advised that the patient be informed thoroughly first. |
