What's sleep apnia you ask? Here's the answer folks and it's not pretty.
Good Heavens! What a weird word. One authority says it means "to breath". Another guru claims it means "without breath". Well, that is exactly what happens with sleep apnea, you stop breathing.
The Csuses Of Sleep Apnea
The two major types of sleep apnea are: * Obstructive sleep apnea * Central sleep apnea In most cases, people with obstructive sleep apnea are not aware that they suffer from the condition. It occurs when the muscles in the throat relax during sleep. This causes the airway to close and breathing is stopped. If you are lucky, your brain will recognize this stoppage and send a signal to wake you up.
In some cases the brain doesn't send a signal to wake you up when the muscles in your throat tighten up and prevent air from reaching your luings. This is called Central Sleep Apnea. Your may wake up and remember later that you woke up. In obstructive sleep apnea, most people are never aware that they woke up and do not know that they have sleep apnea. In some cases, individuals can have a combination of the two conditions called mixed sleep apnea.
Sleep apnea can cause additional complications, as every time a person stops breathing there is a decrease in the oxygen to the brain and body. This can result in problems within the cardiovascular system.
When discovering what is sleep apnea it is interesting to point out, that this occurs in more men than women and is often a problem as you age.
Manisfestations Of Sleep Apnea
Snoring loud enough to wake the dead is a sure sign of sleep apnea. Another element that occurs with individuals with sleep apnea is tha they are sleepy and tired all day evn though they think they had a good night's sleep which they did not, of course because they can wake up over 100 times during their sleep. No wonder they are tired. Other sufferers may wake up with a sore throat or headaches.
As you become aware of these sleep apnea problems, the next step is to consult your medical professional to find out what the main problem is. You medical professional may refer you to a sleep laboratory where you will sleep for a few nights and they will perform tests to pin down the exact nature of your sleep apnea problem. Then the medial professional will be able to diagnose the problem and suggest way to mitiagate or eliminate it.
What's sleep apnia has been answered and as I said before, it's not a pretty picture. Pretty grim, folks and I kid you not. One million people go to their graves with this disorder every single gol darned year. It seems benign to have trouble sleeping until you realize that during a sleep apnea episode, you actually stop breathing. No air, no oxygen, no brain, no you.
