Nu’uanu Say Noo OO ah NOO (if you say “oo” like “spoon”) The valley is famous for a battle that created a unified kingdom in 1795. Kamehameha I swept through the Big Island and Maui, then landed near Waikiki. His army moved up the Nu’uanu Valley, while also flanking the retreating O’ahuan clan. Attacked from two sides when they reached the ridge, some of the Oahuans leapt to their deaths rather than live under Kamehameha’s rule. This information was gathered from a poster at Queen Emma’s summer house on the Pali Road (Route 63). If you continue up (MAUKA) that same Pali Highway, you’ll see on the right side “Nu’uanu Pali Road” which was the original road over the col or low point in the ridge. You’ll see parking spots for Judd Trail and other walks in the dense forest. DON’T DRINK THE WATER, but the cool stream is helpful for tired feet. Turn right onto Nuuanu Pali Dr. (last major stoplight). There is an other small fork (Old Pali Rd.), take the right side to stay on Nuuanu Pali Road. The trailhead for Judd Trail will be to the right near a small bridge; this location is to the left just past Judd Trail. http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Meadows/7230/nuutanman.htm Nuuanu to Manoa Valley by trail….
