At one point or another, I have no idea why I have to remodel a house. I mean, if you were to ask me, I'd build my very own house to my own preference so I wouldn't have it remodeled in the future. I cannot think of any reason why we have to do it over again. But I guess there is always a reason for everything.

I talked to a friend of mine who recently had his house renovated. He had room addition remodeling. I asked him the advantages and disadvantages of having a house remodeled or renovated. It would only be expense on my part. Then he told me things that made me reconsider. But then again, our case was different. He had his own house from the time he got to Chicago, but I only had my own place when I got married.

He has to add rooms every now and then because of his growing family, because of his growing needs; but I built my house with the vision of my family living in it, and that is the reason behind why I built it the way it was built.

When I moved to Chicago, Illinois, the house is ready, for when I got there, I only have to wait for the movers for my stuff and then when they finally got to our place, all I did was arrange them.

During the construction of the house, we, my husband and I were supervising from our old house in Los Angeles, California. From roofing to flooring to windows and the other plans, we did it from home. We only moved in when the place was ready, and most of our things from Los Angeles were already in it.

At first, it was a major adjustment, for ever since I got to the United States, I was already a Californian. But now that I am about to become a Chicagoan, I realized that since nothing in this world is permanent aside from change, I have to accept and learn to go with the flow.

At some points, it makes me smile that what used to be things that I hate are now things I am trying to get myself involve into.

In the sum of all things, the wheels of life continue turning and the sands of time keep on falling. Nothing stops it from continuing its process for its been going on in the past hundreds of thousands of years. We just have to learn to deal with change and learn to accept the fact that things happen for a reason and we will all understand the way life works. Along the way, who knows, you might appreciate the surprises.

Just like in the movie “Now and Then”, one of the characters said these very words: “Things happen in our lives that we can’t stop but it’s no reason to shut out the world. There’s a purpose, for the good and for the bad”.
