By: Ken Morris

Decorating your kitchen can cost you a lot of money if you are very picky about what you put into your home-- and face it, most people are picky about their home dcor. If you want a distinctive looking kitchen without spending a fortune, there are many things that you can do to decorate on the budget. You can keep costs down by following some of these tips.

Decorate Your Kitchen Using What You Have: One great way to decorate your kitchen is to use what you have in your decorating scheme. Take a look around your home and find things that you may have in storage or things that do not belong in other rooms of your house. Use a little creativity to figure out how you can use these items to your advantage in your kitchen. For example, if you have a pile of your grandmother's old table linens, then you might use these to make curtains in your kitchen window. Perhaps you have a few decorative platters that you never use. Could you center your decorating scheme around these plates and hang them on your wall? When you use what you have to decorate, it not only saves you money, but it also saves you storage space in your home as well.

Paint Over It: Painting is another great inexpensive way that you can transform your kitchen quickly. A gallon of paint will cost you about $25 and can probably cover most of your kitchen. Go to your local home improvement store or a paint center and look at all of the choices that you have. If you are feeling adventurous or you are creative, then consider adding a texture to your wall for a trendy look. In no time, you will have a distinctive looking kitchen using paint instead a lot of money.

Using Plants in Your Kitchen: Professional decorators often use plants and greenery to spruce up the look in a home. You can take a cue from professional decorators by doing the same thing. Live plants look spectacular in your kitchen and take up space as well. If you have a bright and cheery kitchen, then greenery and plants will add to the look. If you do not have a green thumb, you may want to consider using artificial plants instead. Plants are inexpensive and easy to use, and they go with any color scheme that you may want to use.
