Green Coffee Beans - Selecting The Right Ones
By: A R Thompson

A lot of people today find that they can not function properly first thing in the morning if they have not had a great cup of coffee first. Although there many people who prefer to make their coffee at home using beans which have already been roasted there are others who prefer to roast their own using green coffee beans.

But in order to produce a great tasting cup coffee you need to ensure that you have selected the right green coffee beans. Below we take a look at those factors you should be taking into consideration if you are choosing to roast your own coffee beans rather than buying those that already have been from your local delicatessen, grocery or coffee store.

The first thing that you should be looking at when buying any kind of green coffee bean is its appearance. Ideally you should be being those beans which come in a uniform shape or size. If not then when it comes to the roasting process you may find that the smaller ones will become over roasted and the larger ones not roasted enough. Also ensure that the beans are the same size and shape ensures that the coffee when drunk has a consistent taste to it.

Along with the beans being the same size and shape you will also need to look at the color of the beans. Again the color of each bean should be of a uniform kind as any kind of unevenness to them may often tell you that there was a problem during the drying process. Because of this you may find that the flavor that these beans actually produce once they have been roasted will not be as consistent as you would like.

The next factor which needs to be taken into consideration is where the beans have actually been grown. There are a number of different countries that now produce coffee beans which they dry and then sell in their unroasted format or which have been roasted. Both Hawaii and Columbia produce great coffee beans and although they both grow theirs on mountains each of their coffees comes with its own distinctive flavor.

However if you are someone who prefers decaffeinated coffee rather than more traditional forms there are green coffee beans available that enable you to roast them and produce this kind of coffee for you. The main countries that produce decaffeinated green coffee beans today are Columbia, Guatemala and Costa Rica. But again the coffee beans that each of these countries produce taste completely different.

The last factor which you should take into consideration when thinking about buying green coffee beans is where you want to actually get them from. Today you have a number of different options to you. You can either go to a specialist coffee shop online or you can seek out a specialty store close to where you live. The great thing about buying them online is that you can order them whilst sat at your desk at work and they will then be dispatched and delivered to your home.

As previously mentioned you can purchase green coffee beans by going to a specialty coffee shop. The advantage to this is that you can talk with the proprietor and they may suggest a number of different types that you may want to try. Also you may find that they do little packets that contain various different types of coffee beans for roasting which you can then try at home and make a decision on which one you prefer the most. Doing this may well work out a lot cheaper rather than buying large batches of each of them at any one time.
