Crockpots - Slow Cooking At Its Absolute Best
By: Aazdak Alisimo

Modern life is all about multitasking as many things as possible and cooking seems to have gone the same way. Slow cooking with crockpots, however, is still a niche of the culinary world worth pursuing for the business individual and family.

Flip this, saute that. Regular cooking can be as hectic as life seems to be these days. As the name suggests, slow cooking is just the opposite. The beauty of the crockpot is you just add the ingredients and let it stew for hours until done.

Crockpot cooking is so simple you can hardly believe it. Even the most basic of steps you have to follow in regular cooking are frowned upon. Stir the food in the pot? Not a chance. Just add the ingredients and let the slow heat do its thing.

Despite the complete simplicity of slow cooking, people can't help but get fidgity. You should never take the top off a crockpot because the loss of heat extends the cooking time and can impact the meal. That being said, people do it all the time.

After a long day, the last thing most people want to do is start cooking. The crockpot solves this problem nicely. One recipe can produce enough food for a week, and you can keep it warm by setting the crockpot to the low setting.

As with any good thing, you can alway make it a bit better. The same is true for slow cooking. By taking some of the following minor steps, you can produce even better meals that you and your family will love.

If you are going to put ground meat into the meal, you should do some preparation work on it. No, you don't need to season it. Instead, try browning it in a skillet. It will give the meat some firmness that will serve it well while it goes through the initial stages of cooking.

Pasta and rice are two food products that don't do well in a crockpot. If you put them in at the outset of the cooking process, you will end up with mush. A better approach is to wait till there is roughly 30 minutes left and then add the pasta or rice.

Layering is something you can find in certain types of cooking. It is definitely a concern in slow cooking. Some foods cook faster than others. Slow cooking ingredients go on the bottom while faster cooking ingredients go on the top.

I love crockpot slow cooking and bet you will if you give it a try. You'll be shocked to see how many different types of dishes you can cook up with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of taste.
