Biodiesel As a Viable Fuel Alternative
By: GARKO

One of the solutions that Rudolf Diesel originally conceived of for his engine system was regular old vegetable oil that you buy in the supermarket. Now this idea is now coming back as what we know as "biodiesel." Biodiesel can be extracted out of vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled grease from your finest restaurants lol. Biodiesel is biodegradable and can drastically lessen auto emissions of particulates, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons. Blends of 20% biodiesel with 80% petroleum diesel (B20) can generally be used in unmodified diesel engines. The manufacturing of biodiesel shot up from hardly anything ten years ago to about seventy-five million gallons three years ago which then tripled to about 225 million gallons in 2006. Soybean oil is the raw material of choice for most biodiesel generation at about 105 facilities and is available in all fifty states.
Biodiesel produced from soybean oil might have some of the same liabilities of biofuel though.
And Biofuel is not anything to be associated with today.
The frantic push for biofuels is threatening world food production and human life.
The dilemna which noone has come forth with a solution to is how the world's agricultural community can produce enough food to produce renewable energy and simultaneously meet the food demand which is growing by the minute
By 2030, the world population is projected to increase to such a degree that we would need to increase food production 50% between now and then just to keep pace. By 2080, food production would have to double. But the urgent movement to biofuels - allegedly environmentally friendly - translates in reality to a reapportionment of fertile land to growing food for energy purposes.
New higher demand has already causative of the rapid increase in the prices of fundamental crops, including wheat, over the past two years.
Biofuels have been heralded as a means of lowering the greenhouse gas emissions released by fossil fuels but recent research have been skeptical of how much benefit that they might have when all aspects, for instance the use of fertilizers on the crops, aretaken into account. Critics have been upset by the rapid destruction of tropical rainforests, which have been levelled to allow farmers to grow biofuel crops.
Laying waste to forest landDeforestation has been found to account for roughly 18% of the planet's greenhouse gas emissions and many scientists consider the concept of eliminating forest land in order to grow crops for biofuel to be misguided at best.
