of course these are called “Sports Utility Vehicles” which is classic Orwellian for saying something which means another.

What “sport” do they engage in? The “sport” of getting the kiddies, going shopping and guzzling gasoline while putting on a show of richer than you are.
Environmental groups have been on the warpath for their low gasoline performance and high pollution.
But what are the Detroit companies telling us?

They say “performance” but they don’t mean performance. They mean “show”. A “good car is defined as fancy is defined as big and strong is defined as show off is defined as “horsepower” and so on. Look at the torrent of TV ads for huge vehicles and luxury sports cars. You see anyone selling low emissions? Its mentioned in the commercials for sure but more as an afterthought than the meat and potatoes.
Corporations want you to waste gasoline and design your system to run hot and burn valves and pistons and so on. Did you ever notice how many hoses in your engine are made from wrestling mat rubber that cracks and crumbles?
Corporations think that they will move more vehicles with these techniques and so far they have been majorly successful.
One confession that Detroit companies know that they manufacture poorly constructedautomobiles is that they have to have, by law, a large and expensive catalytic converter in all cars. This is an admission that the engines don’t burn gasoline correctly. The purpose of the catalytic converter is to burn AND WASTE all the unburned gasoline generated by ineffective engine construction!!)
In the last 100 years, while so many other technologies have advanced and become more efficient and with all the advances in automoblie design, aerodynamics and so on, the average gasoline performance has dropped by roughly 40%!
It is now the duty of every caring individual to change conditions since the SUV makers have no interest in doing so. How do we cause that? By researching, finding, discovering, testing and making available alternative gasoline solutions. Look at the man or woman to the left and right of you? They are not going to do it. So it is up to you. Good news is that some are trailblazing the way on this already.
