The sounds of voice-over artists is everywhere. In fact, your world is brimming with it, and chances are, you don't even notice it. Or at least you didn't before you started considering one of them. If you are wondering why you never noticed voice over artists before, it's because you aren't supposed to. One of the best things about being a voice actor is the ability to get someone's attention while at the same time redirecting their attention from the artist to the product being marketed. That might sound a bit odd when you begin to really ponder it, doesn't it? If you attempt to do that yourself, you are going to wind up drawing the listener’s attention to you and away from your product, which isn't good. That's the biggest reason you want to hire a professional if you are in need of a voiceover.
Consider the vast number of places that voiceovers wind up, and that is after thinking about television promotions and jingles. But you can use voice talent to announce your event or your business’s website. Hey, you can use an actor to broadcast information about your personal website if you want it to be known badly enough. Many people decide to voice those types of projects for themselves. Perhaps it is because they don't think of them as important enough to hire an actor. In that case, why are they doing it at all? If it is worth your time, it’s is worth doing right.
For example, if you want to create an audio book, why would you even consider voicing it yourself - unless, of course, you have a professional-grade training level. And most people simply do not have this kind of experience. Then you have corporate and educational videos, which are very useful and can be highly lucrative - if done right. If you have good material, and people enjoy listening to the speaker, then you have something that can bring you a measure of success. But if people can't stand listening to the voice for one reason or another, then you are out of luck.
“I’m talking to people with this voice all the time!” you may say. True, but people can forgive you for a lot more face-to-face than they will put up with on a recording. And are there people paying to actually to listen to you talk at this point? Probably not. If they are, then stop reading right now. This article is not for you.
You could be under the impression that hiring an amateur or doing it yourself will save you some dough. At the outset, yes, but if this is a business venture you are planning, it will actually cost you money in the long run. Looking cheesy can cost you the respect of the people you are attempting to impress. People are more apt to spend their money with people who give the impression that they truly professional. If they see you doing a terrible job in a recording, as so many wannabes do, then they are going to rethink spending their money with you. |
