By selling DVDs on Ebay you stand a great chance of making a huge profit. But, many DVD businesses will go out of business just as quickly as they went into it. Nearly all of these failures are due to the online business owner making the some common selling mistakes. So, if you want to be a success here are five mistakes that you must avoid: #1 - Auction Listings that Appear Unprofessional You never want your Ebay auction to appear as though a child built it. The fact of the matter is that the less professional your auction site looks the fewer the amount of bids you will receive. Be certain that your online business appears professional to the consumer. Make your auction page appear orderly, and with plenty of images and good descriptions. Check it for grammatical or spelling errors to make sure that your DVD auction looks credible. #2 - Underestimating Overhead Costs If you're not making enough money off of each DVD to cover your overhead, you're going to be losing money instead of making it. Some sellers have made the mistake of underestimating overhead costs when figuring out how much to charge for a DVD. When calculating your overhead costs, don't forget to figure in listing fees, final value fees and the cost of shipping and shipping supplies. Only once these expenses have been covered can you start profiting from your DVD sales. #3 - Mismanaging Shipping Once you start selling hundreds of DVDs a week, you're going to have to hone up on your time management skills. It's critical that each DVD gets shipped out in a timely manner. Nothing will irritate and upset your customers more than having to wait a long time for their DVD to arrive. Once you let yourself fall behind, it can be almost impossible to catch up. To avoid this problem, don't let yourself fall behind in the first place. #4 - Not Focusing on Repeat Sales For the most part your customers will not be exclusive customers but Ebay visitors. Just because they are not exclusive doesn't mean that you shouldn't attempt to make them repeat customers. It has been shown that many Ebay customers will become loyal to Ebay sellers if they are treated well. Try implementing a monthly newsletter and a coupon that gives them a dollar off for repeat purchases. Keep in mind that the more bids that you have the more money you will generate. #5 - Bad Customer Service You may not plan to do business with a customer again, but this doesn't mean that you shouldn't provide them with excellent customer service. Great customer service is vital to any business and especially an online business. On Ebay in particular, you will want to make sure and provide the best customer service. If you make a customer mad it could mean negative feedback. Negative feedback means nothing but loss of business. So, treat your customers with the utmost respect and build an image and a name for yourself.
